Yii Kah Hoe余家和
Yii Kah Hoe graduated from the Malaysian Institute of Arts, obtaining a Diploma in Fine Arts, in 1991. In 1994, he went to China to further his study major in musicology under Professor Yi-Feng Luo.
He obtained a Bachelor Degree of Music from Xian Conservatory of Music in 1997.
He also majors in Chinese flute (dizi) performance under the tutelage of Yong-Zhi Sun (China).
Apart from dizi performances and theoretical studies, Yii is also an active composer. He studied composing under Professor Zhou-Xi Qian and Professor Yu-Yan Rao.
Yii is frequently invited to be the judge for many local Chinese classical instrument competitions.
His working experiences included serving as researcher and lecturer at Eastern Arts Research Centre, Malaysian Institute of Arts (1997-1999), conductor of MIA Experiment Group (1997-1999), lecturer at MSC International College, Music Department (2000), conductor of MSC Experimental Ensemble (2000), conductor of New Era College Chinese Orchestra (2003), guest conductor of PCC Chinese Orchestra (2004), and appointed as Honorary Advisor at the Centre for the Arts, National University of Singapore, Chinese Instrumental Music Examination.
Yii was awarded 3rd prize of International Composition for Chinese Orchestra organized by Singapore Chinese Orchestra in 24th November 2006. Yii is also the winner of MPO Forum for Malaysian Composers 2 in 30th March 2007 and finalist of Taiwan International Composition for Chinese Orchestra in 2005..
The MPO Forum mentor, Fraser Trainer described Yii’s works tread a delicate balance between a fragrant subtle lyricism and more intense rhythmic pulsations. MPO Forum director and conductor, Kevin Field said Yii’s lyricism is wrapped up with sound understanding of the medium; he has a keen sense of form and he has enormous potential. Mr. Tsung Yeh, the director and conductor of Singapore Chinese Orchestra regards Yii as a talented young composer.
Yii is currently a lecturer of Segi College, Subang Jaya, music department.
余家和1991年毕业于马来西亚艺术学院，获得美术文凭。在1994年，他前往中国进修音乐系，师从罗益锋(not sure) 教授。1997年获得了西安音乐学院的音乐学士学位。
余氏在中国名演奏家孙永志的指导下，主攻中国长笛。除了研究笛子表演及理论，他也是一个积极的作曲家，并受钱兆熹教授及饶玉艳(not sure)教授相关的指导。
在2006年11月24日，余氏获得新加坡华乐团举办的国际中乐团创作三奖。2005年，余氏成功进入台湾国际华乐创作大赛决赛圈。在2007年3月30日，他成为第二届大马交响乐团大马作曲大赛的冠军得主。
余氏经常应邀成为各地的华乐比赛的特约评审。新加坡华乐团音乐总监及指挥叶聪先生认为余氏是一位才华横溢的年轻华乐作曲家。
余氏现任梳邦再也世纪学院音乐系的讲师。
